BIOGRAPHY
Javier Ruiz professionally known as “Javier Luis “(aka La Sonrisa Que Canta / the smile that sings) is a Ponce, Puerto Rican born, and New York City raised interpreter, vocalist, producer, and actor who continues to leave his mark in the Latin, Salsa, and ballad market. He is the winner of numerous awards and accolades which include his latest win from the Miami Latino Magazine Awards under the category of “Music Trajectory” January 8th, 2024. His awards are proudly displayed at his home on “the wall of achievements”. This also includes his winning the 2017 LDM Independent Music Award for “Song of the Year”, for his hit song “Por amor” as well as the 2020 LDM Independent Music Award win for “Song of the Year”, for his hit single “Yo no soy un delincuente”. Javiers’ journey started when he got into the English market, performing in and around the New York City night club scene recording and singing pop, R&B and becoming a member of two Gospel choirs making him one of the lead singers of the forty plus member choir. His transition into Salsa music began in 1997 when he recorded and released his first Salsa single titled “Alma Chapada A La Antigua”. He followed that with his 2004 single titled “Ladrona de amor”. In 2007, Javier released two singles titled “Mi Otra Mitad” and Me Voy A Quitar which were part of his 2008 worldwide breakout eight song CD titled “Himno a La mujer” (Hymn to women). On May 6th, 2024, Javier released two singles titled “Por Amor” an all-time classic written by Rafael Solano and a ballad titled “Me llevare conmigo”. Both songs are part of his 2015 six-song EP/DVD double disc set titled “Por amor” (For love). In June 2019 Javier recorded and released his single titled “Yo no soy un delincuente” (I am not a delinquent). In 2022, Javier released yet another single of song writer Noel Estrada’s classic “En mi Viejo San Juan”. All of Javier’s work were released under his very own record label “Miramar Entertainment Inc. Javier’s’ latest works comes under the direction of composer, music arranger, and president of VMP Records, Noel Vargas. Javiers’ latest single released in November of 2023, is titled “Refugio” which was recorded at Eric Maldonado’s Paris Recording Studio and Hector Mestres Quality Studio in Orlando Florida; a production which has introduced Javier Luis to a wider audience on a global scale. This new journey has given Javier the opportunity to experience a more modern Salsa sound in the ever-changing evolution of the Salsa genre. A music lyric video for “Refugio” was also released on YouTube. Javier and his 12-piece Salsa orchestra made NYC Latino history by being the very first artist to grace the stages of Lincoln Center’s Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center with his Salsa music catalog. His promotional tour for the Lincoln Center concert took him to Puerto Rico, where he performed live on the WAPA television network’s top-rated shows “Juntos en la Mañana” and “Pegate al Mediodia”. His other television appearances have included performances on Univision and Telemundo. Javier has had many sold-out concerts at SOBS - Sounds of Brazil. He has performed at the Apollo Theater, Wonderland Blues Lounge, The Duplex, Indigo Blues, The Village Gate, The West End Gate, The Triad Theater Lounge, Club Iguana, Club 72, Summer Music Festivals, Carnegie Hall, Yankee Stadium and B.B. Kings in Times Square just to name a few. Javier’s television and movie credits include Major films such as Carlito’s Way with Al Pacino 4/1993 as an extra and Martial Law with Bruce Willis and Denzel Washington on 2/1998 as an extra. His independent film work includes the movies Eleventh Day (Sci-Fi) during the summer of 2004 playing the character of officer Ballard as well as the film Salsa Lessons filmed in 2005 in which he played the character of “Pedro”, best friend of the leading actor. In 2018 Javier landed a gig as the main host of a Spanglish talk show called “El Latino Ruido” alongside co-host and actor Alex Polanco. El Latino Ruido explored an array of topics and invited guests such as singers, actors, painters, healthcare professionals, politics and included cooking segments. “El Latino Ruido” picked up steam very quickly giving it a very successful first season. The introduction of the show features Javier’s song “Por amor”.
